Oz cricketers give thumbs up to security in India

first_imgAt a time when international athletes are worried about their security in India during the Commonwealth Games, the visiting Australian cricket team on Thursday gave thumbs up to the security arrangements for their tour against the hosts. Many star athletes have pulled out and several countries including Australia have issued travel warnings to their citizens, saying there is high risk of a terror strike during the Games.According to media reports, Australia is also sending a team of top cops to New Delhi to provide a high-level security cordon to its athletes for the Games. However, the Australian cricketers have described as “fantastic” the arrangements.”The security so far has been fantastic. We always get looked after very well in this country. All the players and other guys are excited about being here,” Australia’s vice captain Michael Clarke said during an interaction with the journalists.”Ever since we arrived in India, the security has been outstanding. Right now, we feel very comfortable and are looking forward to the two Tests and the ODIs later on,” he added.Australian cricket team arrived here on September 20 and are scheduled a two-Test and three-ODI series. The series opener will begin here on October 1.All-rounder Shane Watson too found no problems with the security ever since the team has landed in Delhi.”Security has very good. We are being looked after extremely well. I also play for (IPL team) Rajasthan Royals and have been coming here regularly. I find the security and other arrangements exceptional,” Watson said.advertisementOff-spinner Nathan Hauritz also echoed the same sentiment.”There are lot of people around for our security. They are trying to look after us really well,” he said.Youngsters Steve Smith and Phillip Hughes said they have no clue why there is so much hue and cry about the security issue.Clarke said he has always loved touring India.”I love touring here. I also love the Indian food. I must say that I have been lucky to play in India and also enjoyed a bit of a success here. We get looked after well and people here are so passionate about this game.”And the people here also know the way Australia plays and we also love to entertain them by playing best cricket,” Clarke said.last_img read more

Ind vs Eng: Morgan reveals story behind Bell run-out drama

first_imgEngland batsman Eoin Morgan, who was at the non-striker’s end when the Ian Bell run-out controversy happened during the second Test against India, claims that the confusion was caused by umpire Asad Rauf’s ambiguous gestures.Bell was run out when he walked off the crease presuming that the ball had gone for four at the stroke of tea only to realise later that it was in play when he headed for the dressing room. But he was reinstated after India decided to take back the appeal on being requested by England coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss.Morgan was at the non-striker’s end at that time and revealed that Rauf didn’t quite give a clear answer as to whether the ball was still in play when he asked him.”I said ‘Is it four?’ And Asad (Rauf, the umpire) nodded his head. No, he didn’t nod his head. He sort of gestured. So I just turned round and walked off presuming the ball was dead,” Morgan told The Daily Telegraph.”It was a weird one really because Asad at the end of the over doesn’t actually call ‘over’; he never does. He just gestures to the bowler,” he claimed.Bell and Morgan were then stopped reserve umpire Tim Robinson on the boundary line.”Tim just told us to hold on because they were checking to see if it had gone for four and what action they were going to take because the bails had been taken off,” he recalled.advertisementMorgan insisted that neither he nor Bell had a clue about what was happening in the middle.”I wasn’t really worried until I walked off and Belly told me they’d taken the bails off,” he said. .”In the dressing room we didn’t really know what was going on. We were just waiting around to see what happened. The bell went and we still hadn’t heard anything,” Morgan said.”Billy Bowden (the television umpire) came up to our dressing room three times during the interval to say they hadn’t retracted their appeal,” he elaborated.”Literally two minutes before Matt (Prior) and I were about to go out, the message came through that Belly was still in.”Morgan said he could not really understand the fuss that followed.”It was ridiculous really. If the roles were reversed, we would have felt a responsibility to the spirit of cricket and to the way the game should be played,” he asserted.Talking about the ongoing four-match Test series which England lead 2-0, Morgan said the hosts were aiming for the number one spot.”We want to strive to be No.1. For all the talk outside, inside the changing room it is a matter of keeping things simple and breaking down every part of our game. We know that if we execute our plans we can get to be No 1,” he said.- With inputs from PTIlast_img read more

Dave Koz Teams With The Salvation Army To Help LGBTQ Hurricane Survivors

first_imgAfter twenty years of sold out Christmas tours and five celebrated holiday albums within as many years, saxophonist Dave Koz has done his share – and then some – to help to make the season bright.Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary ChristmasThis year he has reassembled his original holiday lineup – pianist David Benoit, trumpeter Rick Braun and acoustic guitarist Peter White – for the making of Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas, an album that features brand new recordings of classic Christmas songs. The September 29, 2017, release of Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas on Concord Records sets the stage for Koz and this same lineup to go back on the road in late November for the 2017 holiday season.“If you had asked me twenty years ago, I would never in a million years believed that we’d be doing Christmas tours two decades later,” says Koz. “But here we are, still doing it, and it’s going as strong as ever! So with twenty years under our belts, it seemed like a great reason to celebrate, and that’s why we decided to include the original cast of our Christmas tour. It’s our chance to go back to the very beginning and celebrate the relationships that this whole journey was built on.”Additionally, in the spirit of coming together and giving to those in need, Dave Koz has teamed up with The Salvation Army to help hurricane survivors within the specific LGBTQ communities by donating proceeds from the aforementioned. The Salvation Army’s mission is to serve people in need without discrimination and will use the gift to provide practical emergency relief and long-term recovery to hurricane survivors in partnership with and by referral from LGBTQ advocacy and service organizations in the disaster-affected areas.“The survivors of these tragic hurricanes and those within the LGBTQ community, will be suffering for months perhaps years later and I hope that my contribution will help them to rebuild some part of their lives,” said Dave Koz.“We’re very grateful that Dave Koz will support survivors of the recent hurricanes through The Salvation Army. We want to thank him for his kindness and his generosity to people who will need our help to rebuild and restart their lives. Millions of people will be affected by the hurricanes and we’ll be there to serve all who come to us with need. The Salvation Army is in communities all over the affected areas helping people for the long term and his gift helps us do that,” said Chaz Watson Territorial Executive Director of Development for Salvation Army.In addition to the brilliant instrumental synergy of Koz, Benoit, Braun and White, Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas also includes a stellar lineup of guest vocalists: Selina Albright, Javier Colon, Kenny Lattimore, Gabriel Orengo and Jeffrey Osborne. In addition, several of the tracks are enhanced by the West European Symphony Orchestra. This confluence of instrumental, vocal and orchestral talent creates the peaceful, familial, home-centered vibe that everyone seeks at holiday time.“This is the kind of record that really sets a mood and stays with that mood,” says Koz. “The feeling and the image I get when I listen to it, is that quiet time after dinner when the kids are asleep, the fireplace is crackling, you’re enjoying an eggnog and you’re gazing at the tree with all the lights and trimmings. This music is perfect for that moment. It’s just a very chill, very beautiful collection of songs for that very peaceful time during the season.”The album talks about the world in general, but especially at Christmastime. “People are different at this time of year,” says Koz. “Christmastime brings out the best in everyone and we all look at the world with childlike joy and tend to appreciate things more. We often hear people say – why can’t it be like Christmas all year ’round.”Album highlights include; Orengo brings his expressive vocals to the Jose Feliciano classic “Feliz Navidad.” Koz calls the arrangement “a completely novel way of interpreting the song. Gabriel does this sort of Bruno Mars type of vocal delivery that’s so expressive and so in the moment.” Selina Albright’s heartfelt vocals bring a retro sensibility to “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” but at the same time, “she has all the dexterity of a modern pop singer,” says Koz. “She takes it to another level, but never overdoes it. Her version sounds so true to what the song is all about.” “O Tannenbaum,” one of Koz’s all-time favorites, creates an opportunity for plenty of interplay between himself and his three bandmates. “At the end of the track, there’s a musical conversation that came about organically.”Indeed, home for Koz and his bandmates is any place where they feel a positive connection. It may be in your town, or even in your living room. “Oftentimes,” he says, “because we’ve been going back to some of the same venues over the course of twenty years for the Christmas tour, these places feel like our home – even if it’s just for two hours in one night in December. Likewise, the songs on Dave Koz and Friends 20th Anniversary Christmas are all very important to those of us who recorded them. We’ve poured a lot of love and care into each song, and hope fans are filled with warmth, kindness and Christmas Spirit.”Dave Koz’s Christmas store features exclusive items to celebrate the 20th Anniversary Christmas album, including signed CDs, socks and a 7″ picture vinyl where fans can get a personal Happy Holidays intro from Dave.
