Islanders’ Dormet Wins Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

In a clutch performance Saturday, Dormet helped the Islanders (15-6, 10-1 SLC) clinch a share of the Southland Conference title and the No. 2 seed in the 2018 Southland Conference Tennis Tournament in Beaumont, Texas. Corpus Christi defeated Northwestern State (14-8, 8-3 SLC), the No. 3 seed in this week’s tournament, 4-3 to close the season and finish the week 2-0, taking down Central Arkansas (14-6, 7-4 SLC) 7-0 on Thursday.   FRISCO, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Luna Dormet is the Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. After dropping the first set 5-7, Dormet won the second 6-2 and had the deciding set tied at four a piece. The freshman from Tours, France, took the next two points to secure the three-set win over NSU’s Emilija Dancetovic and earn the team its third consecutive Southland championship. It was Dormet’s second singles win of the week after defeating Central Arkansas’ QiLi Ma 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday. She also picked up a doubles win at the top flight with Hortense Boscher, defeating the Bears’ Pornpawee Pramethong and Marli Van Heerden 7-5.last_img read more
