He has scored 377 runs from nine games, including three fifties with the help of 23 fours and 39 sixes. On Friday, Russell combined with Nitish Rana to score 102 runs from the last 6 overs and almost completed a miracle run-chase as KKR fell 10 runs short against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.Needing 113 runs off the last six overs, Russell and Rana, who scored an unbeaten 85 from 46, almost got their team over the line but Moeen Ali managed to defend 24 in the final over.Russell smashed a whirlwind 25-ball 65 with the help of 9 monstrous sixes and 2 strokes to the boundary ropes. But it wasn’t enough.Russell has been the backbone of KKR this season of the IPL, singlehandedly winning games for his team. Even as his teammates huffed and puffed to paltry scores, Dre Russ has been muscling KKR to be competitive.KKR boss Shah Rukh Khan, took to social media to ask the rest of the Kolkata players to step up their game and help Russell by winning a few matches.”I feel it’s only fair for KKR to do something in return for Andre Russell, like winning a few before the season ends,” Shah Rukh Khan tweeted.I feel it’s only fair for KKR to do something in return for @Russell12A ,like winning a few before the season ends. https://t.co/Lqybf9vK2kShah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) April 19, 2019Russel too was not happy with the team’s performance after the narrow loss despite his second-fastest IPL half-century this season.advertisement”When you lose cricket games like this, it’s a sweet and sour feeling. The guys tried very hard tonight. Just a four and a six would have taken us over the line. But we have a lot to learn from this game,” Russell said after the end of the game.”I’m disappointed, to be honest. We lost the game in the middle even though we should have restricted RCB for less than 200. The ball was in our court and we tossed the ball on their side. To lose by 10 runs, its just two hits away. In the middle period, if we scored a bit faster we would definitely get the runs with even balls to spare,” Russell added. The tense climax came after Virat Kohli smashed 100 off 58 balls for his fifth century in the IPL and first this season. RCB hammered 91 runs off the last five overs to reach 213 for four, their highest total this year.Ali’s 66 off 28 while batting alongside Kohli also proved crucial for RCB’s cause as they finally managed to defend. The win keeps RCB mathematically alive in the tournament while KKR suffered their fourth loss in as many games. Also Read | Andre Russell open to batting at No.4 in crunch games for KKR after 10-run loss vs RCBAlso Read | Kuldeep Yadav breaks down after Moeen Ali onslaught at Eden GardensAlso Read | RCB survive Russell-Rana scare to seal victory after Kohli 100For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
